R. Sreelekha Early Life and Career

R. Sreelekha was born on 25 December 1960 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. R. Sreelekha family her father is Prof. N. Velayudhan Nair and her mother B. Radhamma, and her husband is Dr Sethunath, Prof. Paediatric Surgery, Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram and she has a son named Gokul who is an MBA Student. R. Sreelekha has done her schooling in Cotton Hill Girls School, Thiruvananthapuram, during her school days she involved in various activities like music, drama, NCC and NSS. Then she did her bachelors in English Literature at the Women’s College in Thiruvananthapuram and did her Masters at the University Institute of English in the Kerala University Campus. Moreover, she did her MBA in Human Resource Management from IGNOU, where she grabbed the prestigious award for Chevening Fellowship by the Government of United Kingdom. Then she undertook the fellowship studies in King’s College, London, Science Po, Paris, Edinburgh University, and more.

Once before she joining in the Police service, she worked as a lecturer at the Vidhyadhi Raja College. She worked as a Grade B Office in Reserve Bank of India, with that she was posted as a Statistical Officer in Mumbai. At the age of 26 in January 1987 R. Sreelekha has become a First Woman IPS officer in Kerala. Once after she joined in the Police service she served as a District Superintendent of Police in 3 districts they are Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Thrissur. R. Sreelekha is also worked as SP in Central Bureau of Investigation for 4 years and worked as DIG in New Delhi. Later she was promoted to Deputy Inspector General of the Ernakulam Range and in the year 2005, she appointed as the managing director of Kerala State Cooperative Rubber Marketing Federation. In the year 2007 June she was appointed as managing director of the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala and she worked as Inspector General, Crime Branch.

R. Sreelekha served as an Addl. DGP, Armed Police Battalions and took additional charge for Training. Later she got posting as ADGP Vigilance on 15 February 2014, where she was posted as ADGP. Later she was appointed in various sectors and by her performance, she has grown as Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services in Kerala.
