Shortly, Narendra Modi discontinued his life living with Jashodaben, started travelling for three years to practice Sannyasa in the Himalayas. After that, he returned to Gujarat and lived with his uncle by working in the canteen at the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation.

After Modi left, she resumed her professional life as a teacher at the primary school from 1978-1990 in Banaskantha district. Normally, Jashodaben refuse the interviews after the world came to know about her marriage life. Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi said that she was not invited to the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi. But, Jashodaben said that she still had emotions for Modi and was pleased that he acknowledged her as a wife on his legal documents in contesting the election. She said that she plans to meet him again at the right time.
In June 2014, Jashodaben made her first public event by attending the public funeral of politician Gopinath Munde. In the same year, she made her first trip to Mumbai at the time of election where she prayed for her husband Narendra Modi at the Mahalakshmi Temple and the Siddhivinayak Temple.
In February 2015, Some Christian missionaries had invited Jashodaben to host the function for the people to convert them to Christianity. In the same year, Modi supporters organised a conference on politics and Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi was scheduled to speak at the stage. Event organisers report that the conference was cancelled on day 2 of the week-long program under the control of BJP leader Amit Shah and others. No reason was given for shutting down the conference, but people in attendance said that the meeting had cancelled due to Jashodaben’s presence.

Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi had applied for a passport in November 2015 to go abroad and meet their family friends and relatives. As she was unable to provide a marriage certificate or a joint affirmation from her husband, the application has been returned by the regional Passport office in Gujarat saying its “incomplete.” Her brother Ashok said that she may have to explore a legal option to get the passport, which is a right of every citizen of the country.
