General Bipin Rawat is the 27th Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, who assumed office on 31 December 2016 following the retirement of General Dalbir Singh. He served as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS) before taking charge as Chief of the Army Staff. He has been serving the nation since 16th December 1978. Bipin Rawat Early & Career
Bipin Rawat is a third-generation soldier who was born and brought up in Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, India. His family had been serving the Army for multiple generations, and his father Laxman Singh Rawat was also a Lieutenant Army General who served the country. He attended St. Edward’s School, Shimla and Cambrian Hall Boarding School, Dehradun, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He was awarded the ‘Sword of Honour’ during his school days. He then graduated from Defense Services Staff College, Wellington Cantonment, Madras University, Tamil Nadu, and Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, USA. He was also awarded the Doctorate of Philosophy by Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut for his military-media strategies.
General Bipin Rawat was given the 5th battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles on 16 December 1978, and since then he has been serving as the army personnel. He has also commanded many other forces. General Rawat has also held the staff assignments. He assumed the post of General Officer Commanding in chief of army staff on 1 January 2016. And he assumed the post of Vice Chief of Army Staff on 1 September 2016. He has also been a part of many battles. Later, he became the 27th Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, who assumed office on 31 December 2016 after the retirement of General Dalbir Singh.
