Avani Chaturvedi is an Indian women fighter pilot. She came into limelight when she flew a MiG-21 bison in her first solo flight on 21st of February 2018. Avani Chaturvedi is the first Indian female Air Force pilot to take a solo flight in a fighter jet. She is one among the three flying Cadets besides Ms. Bhawana Kanth and Ms. Mohana Singh, who was inducted in Indian Air Force fighter squadron in June 2016. Avani Chaturvedi (Pilot) Profile and Career

Avani Chaturvedi was born on 27 October 1993 in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, India. She attended Adarsh Higher Secondary School in Deoland, a small town in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in B.Tech (Computer Science) at Banasthali University, Rajasthan. Later, she worked as a Software Engineer at the IBM for few years.

Avani’s father, Mr. Dinkar Chaturvedi, is an executive engineer in Water Resource Department of Madhya Pradesh government and her mother is a homemaker. Her elder brother is also an army officer, and she was inspired by the service in her family and a brief flying experience of few hours in the flying club of her college inspired her to join the Indian Air Force (AIF). Avani completed her training at Hyderabad Air Force Academy.

After completing one year of severe training at Air Force Academy at Hyderabad, Avani became an Indian Air Force fighter squadron on 18 June 2016. She was declared as the first battle pilot along with two of her cohort, Mohana Singh, and Bhawana Kanth.

On 21 February 2018, She created history by completing a solo flight in a MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft. She had achieved this feat by completing half-an-hour long solo plane in Russian-origin jet in the skies over Jamnagar Air Base, Gujarat. Avani Chaturvedi has appeared in an Indian Air Force recruitment advertising campaign.
