Karthik Sivakumar, better known by his stage name Karthi, is an Indian film actor, who predominantly works in the Tamil Film Industry. He made his acting debut in Ameer’s Paruthiveeran in 2007. He got critical acclaims and several accolades including the Filmfare Award for the Best Actor and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award. He then appeared in Aayirathil Oruvan (2010), which was a commercial success directed by Selvaraghavan. He then starred in movies such as Paiyaa, Naan Mahaan Alla, Siruthai, Biriyani, Madras, Oopiri, Kaatru Veliyidai and Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, which was established him in the Tamil Cinema.

Karthi got married Ranjini on 3 July 2011. He has one daughter named “Umayaal” and a son “Kandhan”.

Early Life And Career

Karthi was born on 25 May 1977, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His father Sivakumar is an Actor and Lakshmi is his mother. He has one elder brother Suriya, who is also an actor.  He has completed his elementary and secondary school education at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan and St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Chennai. He completed Mechanical Engineering from Crescent Engineering College, Chennai. After his graduation, he worked as the Engineering consultant in Chennai and considered higher studies abroad. Then he got a scholarship for his higher studies in the United States and enrolled at Binghamton University, New York, where he completed his Master of Science in Industrial Engineering.

After completing studies, Karthi returned to Chennai and met the director Mani Ratnam and got a chance to work as the assistant director for the film Aaytha Ezhuthu. Later, he Karthi got acting offers and worked with Priyamani in the film Paruthiveeran. Karthi got critical acclaims for his performance in the movie. He then appeared in the film Aayirathil Oruvan which was directed by Selvaraghavan.
