A total of 2.15 toilets were to be constructed in Shivpuri district, but despite all efforts, 80,000 toilets are yet to be constructed. District panchayat CEO Nitu Mathur reported that,
“We are working on all levels and in the past five months a total of 42000 toilets have been constructed in our district. But still we are lagging behind by 80000 toilets. So we announced for felicitating those husbands who will gift a toilet to their wives on the festival of Karwa Chauth,”
“So far we have received information of only one person, named Durgesh Kushwaha who has promised to gift his wife a toilet and also started its construction. However, we are hopeful of getting a report of few more people, by Monday morning, because as it is Sunday and a festival day. Most of the people are in festive mood though I am happy that even if one person has responded to our call and has gifted his wife a toilet”.
The administration also decided to organise monthly Swatchhta Sammellans to felicitate all those people who will take unique initiatives for construction of toilets.
