Hima Das is an Indian Sprinter. she is the first Indian track athlete, who won a medal at any global even. She won the gold medal in women’s 400m at the World U-20 Championships 2018 at Tampere, Clocking a time of 51.46 seconds. She also finished the Commonwealth Games in both the 400 meters and the 4×400 meters relay. In the 400 meters, Das qualified for the final, where she finished sixth in the time of 51.32 seconds, 1.17 seconds after the gold medalist Amantle Montsho from Botswana. In 4×400 metres relay, she was a part of the Indian team which competed in the final where they finished seventh in the first time of three minutes and 33.61 seconds. • Initially Hima Das was much interested in football. Then she shifted to track events according to her school physical trainer guidance.
• Her coach Nipon found her in a inter-district meet, were she won gold in both 100 and 200 m wearing cheap spikes. Nipon said “She ran like the wind. I hadn’t seen such a talent in ages.”
• Her coach convinced her that she has a future in athletics. So he pressurized her to shift to Guwahati, which is 140kms away from her village.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian President Ram Nath Kovind were congratulate her on his twitter page after winning the World U-20 Championships 2018.
• Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has teased her English before winning the medal. After winning the gold they apologized for mocking her.
• She was the recipient of Arjuna Award on 25th September 2018.
• She was also the appointed as the first youth ambassador of UINICHEF on November 2018.
• After Bhogeswar Baruah, Das is the secon women from Assam who won gold medal in International events.
