Basil Thampi was born on 11 September 1993. He was born in Ernakulam, Kerala, India. He was born and brought up in Kerala. Basil Thampi made his first-class debut for Kerala on February 6, 2015. In the 2017 IPL Auction, Basil Thampi was bought by Gujarat Lions. He had a great season that year and he also won the “Emerging Player of the Season” award. Thampi was a net bowler for the Indian team during the February 2017.

Basil Thampi bowls at a speed of 140 kmph and he is famous for his consistent Yorker. He moves the ball well and he has the capacity to reverse the old ball as well. In November 2017, his name was named in the Indian Squad for the T20 matches against Sri Lanka but he did not play. In the 2018 IPL Auction, Basil Thampi was bought by Sun risers Hyderabad team.
