Vasant Ravi is a doctor-turned-actor who has worked predominantly in the Tamil movie industry. He is associated with the 2017 film Taramani directed by Ram and co-starring Andrea Jeremiah and Azhagam Perumal. He won the Vijay Awards for Best Debut Actor for his performance in the Taramani movie. He is playing a prominent role in Rajanikanth’s Jailer movie. His horror thriller flick Asvins became one of the trending topics on the internet.

• Vasanth had always wanted to become an actor. He had trained in Anupam Kher’s film institute, Actor Prepares, and Rajiv Menon’s Mindscreen.
• In one interview, the MBBS-turned-actor said, “When I came to Chennai from Manchester, I met Ram through one of our mutual friends. He knows that I have always wanted to act.
• Though I hold a medical degree from Ramachandra University, films have always interested me more. So, I enrolled myself in Anupam Kher’s school ‘The Actor Prepares’. It gave me immense experience and made me believe in myself,” he says.
• For his character in Ram’s Taramani, Vasanth has had to alter his looks. So he has grown a beard and hair long for a year. He still retains that look because if he goes clean-shaven, people won’t be able to recognize him.
• Taramani had a theatrical release on 11 August 2017. After a slow start at the box office, the number of screens increased during the second week and the film progressed to become a big success in multiplex cinemas across the state.
• According to Vasanth, Taramani is a “beautiful love story” that Tamil cinema hasn’t seen so far. He said the film is about human emotions and complex situations. The film is a wonderful commentary on the male-female relationship and how it has changed in the age of globalization.
