Gomathi Marimuthu is an Indian Athlete native to Tiruchirappalli city in the state of Tamil Nadu. In April 2019, Gomathi participated in 800 meter athletic event at 23rd Asian Champion held on Qatar and won the gold medal with the record of 2 minutes 7 seconds. Despite she belongs to poor farmer family, she is the first Indian women who won gold medal in Asian Athletic Championship.

Interesting facts about Gomathi Marimuthu

Gomathi had partcipated in 800m event at the 2013 Asian Championship held in Pune, where she finished seventh. In 2015, she finished fourth in the same event at Wuhan, China.

Unfortunately, Gomathi lost her father in September 2016 and later she suffered with a groin injury. Few months later, she lost her coach due to heart attack. She then joined Government Of India – Income Tax dept in Bangalore under sports quota. After two years, she came back to track and started training herself. In 2019, she participated in national-level events and took part in Asian Athletic Championships.
