Laxmi Agarwal is an Indian campaigner and founder of Stop Sale Acid and TV host. She is a survivor of acid attack and she raises her voice for the rights of acid attack victims. In 2005, she was attacked by a 32 years old man named Gudda aka Nadeem Syed for rejecting his marriage proposal.

She with Alok Dixit did campaigns against acid violence, sale of acid and co-founded an NGO, Chhanv Foundation. Alok and Laxmi decided to live in a relationship without getting married and the couple has a daughter Pihu. As the director of the foundation Chhanv, she got a honorarium of Rs 10,000 a month which later stopped when she quit the NGO due to the differences with her partner Dixit. Also the couple parted their ways in 2015.

Since then Laxmi went through lot of struggles as she had not job, no home, no partner and no one to look after her daughter. Despite receiving many awards and walking on ramps didn’t provide her any money. In 2018, she was in a situation where she couldn’t pay for her accommodation. Even though she was a trained beautician no one was ready to employ her.

But days after her situation being published in Hindustan Times, Laxmi got a lot of love from people. Money began to pour into her account from unknown people. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar donated 5 lakh to her. A hair and makeup academy owner was ready to make her as the head of one of their salons after Laxmi completing a paid internship. They also offered to sponsor her daughters education. The president of Rotary Club of New Delhi offered her a skill enhancement training. A jewellery designer assured to take care of her daughter’s education.

• Laxmi Agarwal has filed a case against the Sale of Acid by gathering 27,000 signatures for a petition in Supreme Court.
• Deepika Padukone plays Laxmi Agarwal in the movie Chhapaak directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film is based on real life story and is scheduled to the screens on January 10, 2020.
• On 23 April 2019, Deepika Padukone shared a special meal with Laxmi Agarwal celebrating the wrap up of the first shooting schedule of her film Chhapaak in Delhi.
