The governor’s office Raj Bhavan and the police department both denied that the SUV was part of his protection as claimed by reports.
The 33-year old bike rider and a 10-year-old boy were thrown off from their motorcycle when the SUV hit the 2-wheeler on the ECR ( East Coast Road) off Pudukalpakkam nearby Mamallapuram in the neighbouring Kancheepuram District, the police said. Few media’s report claimed the vehicle was part of the escort of Governor Banwarilal Purohit who was returning from Cuddalore to Chennai. However, when contacted them, a top police official denied it. “It (the vehicle) was not part of the governor’s escort. It was a separate vehicle coming back after completing duty,” Kancheepuram SP Santosh Hadimani told the news agency PTI.
A Raj Bhavan statement said the reports about a vehicle in Governer’s convoy being involved in the accident was “factually and incorrect“. “The Governor’s convoy began from Cuddalore at 2:15 pm and they reached Raj Bhavan in Chennai, at 4:20 pm. There was no event of any mishap or accident in the passage of the convoy from Cuddalore to Chennai,” they said.
The release said the Superintendent of Police of Kancheepuram district, informed Raj Bhavan that a vehicle which is used as an advanced pilot, met with an accident after leaving the parade at Kancheepuram district limits, and after progressing 10 km while returning to its base. “It is evident that the vehicle, which met with an accident, was on its own and was not part of the escort of the Hon’ble Governor,” the release said.
