Padma awards 2018: President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the coveted Padma awards for the achievers who have contributed to diverse fields such as social welfare, arts, traditional medicine, entertainment, and healing. This year, the government announces 85 Padma awardees which include three Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan, and 73 Padma Shri.

The few well-known names among the 85 Padma awardees include maestro Ilaiyaraaja (Padma Vibhushan), Hindustani classical music exponent Ghulam Mustafa Khan (Padma Vibhushan) and for the literature Shri Parameshwaran Parameshwaran (Padma Vibhushan).

Padma Bhushan for cricketer MS Dhoni, Bhojpuri singer Sharda Sinha, painter Laxman Pai, snooker player Pankaj Advani. Actor Manoj Joshi (Padma Shri) and tennis player Somdev Devvarman (Padma Shri), a ‘father of palliative care in India’ M R Rajagopal (Padma Shri), Murlikant Petkar, India’s first para-Olympic gold medalist has also been honored with a Padma Shri. Tamil Nadu’s Rajagopalan Vasudevan, known as the plastic road-maker of India is another winner.

World Cup-winning former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni received Padma Bhushan Award on Monday at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi by President of India Ram Nath Kovind. He was conferred with the honorary Lt Colonel rank by the Territorial Army in 2011, months after he had led India to World Cup glory at home. MS Dhoni is the second Indian cricketer after Kapil Dev to receive this honor.

Cueist Pankaj Advani, a multiple world-champion also conferred with Padma Bhushan Award. Both Dhoni and Advani exchange greetings each other at the award ceremony. Dhoni’s wife Sakshi was also present there.

Tamil folk singers Dr. Vijayalakshmi Navaneethakrishnan was conferred with the Padma Shri Awards. Vijayalakshmi Navaneethakrishnan is a Tamil Musician, Singer, Composer, Author, and Professor who is a renowned exponent of the folk art.
