Vaiko Arrested: MDMK Chief Vaiko Sentenced to a 1 Year Jail Term

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief Vaiko has been sentenced to a one-year jail term and fined Rs 10,000 by a Chennai Court for 2009 seditious speech case.
In the year 2008, Vaiko allegedly spoke against the Indian government during a public meeting titled “Elangaiyail Nadapathu Enna?”. He also supported the LTTE in the last stage of the Sri Lanka civil war and reportedly spoke against the Union government for aiding Sri Lanka.

Earlier, in 2002, Vaiko has spent 18 months in jail for pro-LTTE speeches. He was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).
