Stan Swamy is a Jesuit priest and tribal activist. He spent his life working for the rights of one of India’s most disadvantaged communities. He was jailed for seven months, booked for alleged criminal conspiracy and sedition, and under the UAPA by NIA in the Bhima Koregaon case. Stan Swamy passed away on July 05, 2021, due to brief illness.
He worked for over 5 decades in Jharkhand, fighting for the rights of the Adivasi community. Swamy earlier suffered from hearing loss, Parkinson’s disease, and lumbar spondylosis. He also tested positive for Covid in May 2021. Since then, his condition had deteriorated. He died today (5 July). He was 84.
