Interesting Facts
- After completion of his studies, he joined the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the year 1982.
- Soon after he joined ISRO, Annadurai made an impact by contributing to the INSAT system maintenance.
- He served as spacecraft operations manager for the IRS (Indian Remote Sensing) 1A, IRS 1B, INSAT (Indian National Satellite System) 2A, and INSAT 2B satellite programs.
- He then held the post of deputy project director before being promoted to mission director of the INSAT 2C program and of the INSAT 2D, 2E, 3B, 3E, and GSAT (Geosynchronous Satellite) 1 program.
- His first successful mission in ISRO was Chandrayaan 1. It was India’s first mission to the moon launched by ISRO. Chandrayaan 1 was launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, India on October 22, 2008, by a PSLV-C11 launch vehicle.
- Annadurai was program director for India’s lunar probes Chandrayaan 1 and Chandrayaan 2. He worked with great effort with his team of able engineers and scientists to carry instrumentation from NASA, Bulgaria, ESA, and ISRO.
- He played a significant role in moving forward the future of India by making this mission a successful one with the aid of international cooperation.
- Chandrayaan 1 was well praised and received many awards including the Space Pioneers Award for Science and Engineering at the 28th International Conference on Space Development, in Florida USA in 2009.
- Presently Dr.Annadurai is serving as Director of ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore. The center is responsible for building state-of-the-art satellites for communication, remote sensing, navigation, space science, and interplanetary missions.
