Manimegalai is the wife of popular musician and director Gangai Amaran. She is the mother of director Venkat Prabhu and actor Premgi. Manimegali was under treatment for a chronic health condition at Kaveri hospital in Chennai. Due to complications in her health conditions, she is passed away on May 09 at 11:00 PM. She was 69. The Tamil film industry conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the family on social media.
