Priya is a 28-year-old politician. She got the light and fame for being one of the youngest Chennai Mayor. She became interested in politics because of her father R Rajan, a ward-level DMK functionary, and her grandfather Chengai Sivam late former DMK MLA. During her canvassing, Priya said solving the waterlogging problem is her top priority once becoming the mayor. She won the counselor election in ward 74, Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar has become the third woman mayor of Chennai city. Notably, she is the first Dalit woman to become a mayor and the first mayor from North Chennai.

Minister Sekar Babu and Mayor Priya Rajan inspected the Kasimedu fishing harbor after cyclone Mandous landfall. The video of her traveling on footboard in the Minister’s car during the after-cyclone inspection went viral on the internet.
