Vijay Karnik is a retired Indian Air force officer from Nagpur. He fought for India during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. On that time Vijay Karnik was a Squadron Leader who was in charge of the Bhuj airport, Gujarat. Unfortunately, Bhuj airstrip was destroyed by Pakistan army. In order to keep the airbase active and provide continuous support to the Indian Air Force, he recovered Bhuj airstrip with the help of 300 fearless women from a nearby village. This is termed as India’s ‘Pearl Harbour’ moment. Vijay Karnik played a significant role in India’s victory in the 1971 war. Popular Bollywood Actor Ajay Devgn is playing the squadron leader Vijay Karnik in his next, Bhuj: The Pride of India.
