Directed by Sharan Sharma, the film is a biopic on the life of Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena. She is the first Indian women fighter pilots to venture into a war zone. During the 1999 Kargil War, Gunjan rescued soldiers and was honored with the Shaurya Vir award for her courage and grit during the war.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl Movie was jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios. The film also features Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in supporting roles.
