Vice President Releases Rs 125 Coin on National Statistics Day

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu to release Rs 125 Coin and circulation coin of Rs 5 denomination to mark the Statistics Day. The coin is released to pay respect to the statistical genius Mahalanobis and his 125th birth anniversary. Google Doodle also honours Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis today. Although the coin will not be available for mass circulation. June 29 is counted as the Statistics Day in the category of special days.

In 2007, the government designated June 29 as Statistics Day in the category of special days for celebration in India. Quality Assurance in Official Statistics is the theme for Statistics Day this year. Every year various events will be conducted by Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation and Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) on June 29 at Kolkata.
