Vasanthakumari Kamalakannan won the counselor election in 32nd ward and was elected as the unopposed mayor of Tambaram corporation. Vasanthakumari completed her graduation in B.Tech chemical engineering. Notably, she is the first graduate of her family. Vasanthakumari Kamalakannan, a 25-year-old Dalit woman is one of the few young candidates who won the counselor election. She is the first mayor of the newly formed corporation. She is a woman who loves simplicity, came to her swearing-in ceremony with her father on a scooter. Minister for MSME Tha Mo Anbarasan greeted her at the Tambaram council office after her swearing-in ceremony.
