The Top 3 Casino Movies that Indian Players Should Watch

If you’re a seasoned casino player or simply someone interested in anything casino-related, you probably miss the whole scene. While commercial businesses are starting to open once again, many are still hesitant about traveling or having outdoor leisure activities. This is why even if casinos and gambling houses are open; it’s still not as lively as before.

Teen Patti (2010)

When talking about gambling in India, a game of Teen Patti shouldn’t be missed. It’s such a popular card game in the country that a movie had to be based around it. The movie titled Teen Patti was released in 2012 and stars Ben Kingsley, Amitabh Bachchan, and Shraddha Kapoor. If you’ve enjoyed the 2008 movie 21 that stars Jim Sturgess, you’ll enjoy Teen Patti the same.

Teen Patti shows how mathematics is involved in the art of gambling. The mathematician in this film is played by Amitabh Bachchan named Venkat who wants to use his skills in winning the big jackpot. His curiosity started when he was invited to go to a grand casino in London. He started to have a theory that could be the answer to winning big and could change mathematics in general.

When he gets back to India, he then had three students play a game of Teen Patti to test his theory and after finding out that it works, they set out on a journey to professional gambling but it comes with a  lot of risks which the movie is mainly about.

Asian Movie Pulse reviewed the film and wrote:

“All in all, Teen Patti, with its intriguing concept and an exceptional cast… It’s a good watch if you like to watch two acting geniuses (yes, I mean Ben Kingsley and Amitabh Bachchan) sharing the screen and some meaningful philosophical crosstalk.”

The Great Gambler

If you prefer the classics, Bollywood has a movie called The Great Gambler which was shown in 1979. IT is an action thriller film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, Neetu Singh, and Prem Chopra. The film is inspired by international gangs, spies, and secret agents who go on undercover operations.

In this movie, you’ll follow Jai (played by Amitabh Bachchan) who is an expert gambler and has never lost a game. His winning streak has caught the attention of the underground people including a don played by Madan Puri, Ratan Das. Jai then started to get into risky business. He eventually lost a huge sum of money which triggered an interesting plot for the movie.

The film may not have done great at the box office but many gambling fans and even people who don’t gamble at all enjoy the thrill that the film brings. Its cinematography is also worth your time. It’s a gambling-themed Bollywood film that shouldn’t be missed!


If you’re looking for a casino thrill mixed with a bit of romance and drama, Jannat is the Bollywood film to watch. Jannat or also called Heaven was released in 2008 and stars Emraan Hashmi and Sonal Chauhan.

In this movie, you will follow a street-smart youngster played by Emraan Hashmi, Arjun, who is obsessed with making easy-earned money. However, after meeting Zoya (played by Sonal Chauhan) Arjun starts to become more motivated to get richer. He then starts to take his gambling skills to another level. From playing small-time card games, he moves on to sports betting and actual casino gaming. Arjun eventually go involved in a dirty business which will affect her relationship with Zoya.

Jannat is considered a world-renowned film that did well at the box office. Planet Bollywood’s Atta Khan wrote this about the film:

“Jannat has the hallmarks of Pritam at his very best; it is a vibrant, classy, and extremely enjoyable soundtrack that reaches out to the masses and therefore sells itself, just go and soak up its glorious rock-infused sounds and then reflect on why we all love Pritam…talent is a word too easily used in this day and age but he has it in abundance (controversy aside!).” Khan rated the film 8 out of 10.
