Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev details

Jaggi Vasudev was born on 3rd September 1957 in Mysuru, Karnataka, India. He was born to Dr Vasudev and Susheela. His father Vasudev was an ophthalmologist with the Indian Railways and this resulted in the frequent shifting of his family. From his childhood, he developed an interest towards wildlife from his great-grandmother who lived for more than 113 years. At the age of 12, he was taught simple yoga asanas from Malladihalli Sri Raghavendra Swamiji. Sadhguru used to do these simple yoga daily which led to much deeper experience later.

He completed his schoolings at Demonstration School, Mysore in the year 1973 and then graduated from the University of Mysore with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature. It was in his college days when he developed an interest towards Travelling and bikes. It was in the year 1982, he rode up Chamundi Hill and sat on a rock which is the place he claims to have the spiritual experience. Six weeks later, he left his business to his friend and started to travel in the effort to gain insight into his mystic experience.

After a year of travelling and meditating, he decided to teach yoga and it was in the year 1983 when he started his first yoga class with just 7 participants. After that, he travelled to various locations to teach yoga. These are the initial works done by Sadhguru and now he has to build Isha Yoga which teaches free Yoga sessions for more than millions of people across the world.

In the year 1993, Isha Yoga Center was founded near Coimbatore. Isha Yoga centre started hosts series of programs to create an awareness to the people about the benefits of doing Yoga. Isha Vidhya is also a part of Isha Foundation to improve the education standards and to increase the literacy rate in rural India.
