RK Nagar by-election Candidates: Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that By-election in Tamil Nadu’s RK Nagar will be held on December 21 and counting of the vote will be held on December 24. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has won seven out of 11 times in the constituency in the last 40 years. But this time, two faces of AIADMK are in the fray for the position. AIADMK presidium chairman and party’s nominee E. Madhusudhanan and DMK’s Candidate M. Maruthuganesh filed their nominations with election officials for the byelection to the prestigious Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly constituency. AIADMK presidium chairman and party’s nominee E. Madhusudhanan filed his nomination for the RK Nagar by-election. He was accompanied by senior party leaders of AIADMK party including Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar.
While speaking to media after nominations, Madhusudhanan said that he will surely win the election with the blessings of former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa and with the iconic ‘Two Leaves’ symbol. He also visited the memorials of party founder M.G. Ramachandran and Annadurai after filing his nomination.
Sidelined deputy general secretary of AIADMK leader T.T.V Dhinakaran also filed his papers as an independent candidate for the RK Nagar by-election. Before he filing his nomination, he met his aunt Sasikala in Bengaluru parappana agrahara prison and discussed about his participation. While filing his nomination, his party members carried a flag with white and red stripes, which looked similar to the flag of AIADMK without the face of Anna.
Marudu Ganesh, a journalist by profession and an advocate, has been fielded by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and files his nomination papers. Sources said that the top leaders of the DMK party are accompanied him and he was re-nominated by the DMK as soon as the poll schedule was announced.
The members in AIADMK asked applications from candidates to contest this by-election. Usually, the parliamentary board headed by the party general secretary would assemble the meeting, choose an RK Nagar by-election Candidates and make the announcement. But this time, all the members of the party are going by the rules.
RK Nagar Campaign
As the campaign for the RK Nagar by-election is set to end today evening, the Election Commission has directed all political functionaries, party workers, volunteers, who have been brought from outside the RK Nagar and who are not voters in RK Nagar, to leave the constituency immediately after 5 pm on 19 December 2017.
Election Commission instructed the police to check all the wedding halls, community halls, lodges, and the guest house to find out whether outsiders were accommodated. The vehicle permits given to candidates including star campaigners would cease to be valid with effect from 5 pm on 19 December 2017.

AIADMK (EPS-OPS Faction) – RK Nagar by-election Candidate E. Madhusudhanan
E. Madhusudhanan is a politician and former minister in Tamil Nadu, India. He is the Presidium Chairman of the AIADMK party and currently supports the current chief minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi Palanisamy and deputy chief minister O.Paneerselvam faction of Party.
He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as an ADMK candidate from RK Nagar constituency in 1991 election. He also served as Handloom minister in Jayalalitha cabinet formed after 1991 election. Now, he was field as a candidate of AIADMK (EPS-OPS Faction) in the RK Nagar by-election following the death of Chief Minister Jayalalitha.
AIADMK (VK Sasikala Faction) – RK Nagar by-election Candidate T.T.V Dhinakaran
T.T.V Dhinakaran is the deputy general secretary and member of the AIADMK Party in Tamil Nadu. V.K.Sasikala appointed him as the deputy General Secretary of AIADMK before going to jail. He was arrested in a case regarding an allegation of attempting to bribe the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the AIADMK’s iconic ‘Two Leaves’ election symbol.
Later, he was released and now he had filed his nomination as an independent candidate for the RK Nagar by-election. Before he filing his nomination, he met his aunt Sasikala in Bengaluru parappana agrahara prison and discussed about his participation.

DMK – RK Nagar by-election Candidate Marudu Ganesh
Marudh Ganesh is a journalist by profession and a practising lawyer. He hails from a middle-class background while his mother was a former councillor which gives an introduction to the area. He is known to the DMK cadre in the area since he is the area secretary. DMK had re-nominated Marudu Ganesh as RK Nagar by-election Candidate as soon as the poll schedule was announced.
But Marudhu Ganesh should have to depend much on the DMK party since he is facing an election for the first time in his life.
The MDMK, VCK, CPI and CPI(M) have announced their support for the DMK candidate Marudu Ganesh.
BJP – RK Nagar by-election Candidate Karu Nagarajan
BJP’s president for Tamil Nadu Tamilisai Soundararajan confirmed that her party will nominate a candidate for the R.K. Nagar byelection. She had accompanied Mr Karu Nagarajan as a candidate for RK Nagar by-election. Before he joined the BJP in January 2016, Karu Nagarajan was the State general secretary of AISMK party founded by actor turned politician R. Sarath Kumar. Ms Soundararajan said that the results of the election would bear testimony to the BJP’s growing political clout in the State.
Vishal – RK Nagar by-election Candidate (Nomination Rejected)
We have seen Actor Vishal taking big steps in Cine industry after becoming the President of Tamil Film Producers Council and General Secretary of the Nadigar Sangam. Also, he has raised his voice for several public issues which made us expect his entry into politics. In the current scenario where all the predominant parties are on the verge of filing the nominations for the RK Nagar by-election, Vishal has made his move boldly. Vishal has confirmed his part in RK Nagar by-election. Even Kamal Hassan has still didn’t announce any clues regarding his political party, Vishal has made his entry independently. So we can see that Vishal has not joined hands with any of the parties as of now and has a created path for himself.
“I thought it was time. I can’t sit and watch anymore. These people did not even conduct civic polls. As a citizen, one does not even know who is supposed to pick up garbage outside the house. That’s the condition now. If change has to come, it can come through anyone. It can even come through Vishal”
His close associates said that he had been thinking of a political entry for a long time as he is fed up with the current status of Tamil Nadu.
Election Commission had rejected actor Vishal’s nomination papers citing “discrepancies” in the papers in respect of signatures. This comes hours after he had claimed that his nomination has been accepted by the RK Nagar poll panel. The actor expressed his sadness by saying it was disheartening for him as the nomination was initially accepted and later rejected.
MGR Amma Deepa Peravai – RK Nagar by-election Candidate Deepa (Nomination Rejected)
Late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s niece J Deepa filed her nomination for the RK Nagar election as a member and general secretary of the MGR Amma Deepa Peravai. She was also in battle which has been drawn for the by-election to the RK Nagar Assembly seat, slated for December 21. After the nomination, She said reporters,
“I will win and will work for the people in place of the late leader J Jayalalithaa”
Election Commision had rejected her nomination citing several discrepancies were found in her paper.
Naam Tamilar Katchi – RK Nagar by-election Candidate – Kalai Kottu Udhayam
Naam Tamilar Katchi is a Tamil nationalist party in the state of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, India. Seeman is the chief-coordinator of the political party, Naam Tamilar Katchi in Tamil Nadu. He had accompanied Mr Kalai Kottu Udhayam as a candidate for RK Nagar by-election.
Congress – RK Nagar by-election Candidate S. Thirunavukkarasar
Su. Thirunavukkarasar is an Indian politician. He is a secretary of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) of the Indian National Congress party. He had filed his nomination as an independent candidate for the RK Nagar Election.
RK Nagar election Candidates 2017 – MC Chandrasekhar
The Nephew of Tamil Nadu’s Famed Chief Minister MG Ramachandran has filed his nomination for the RK Nagar by-election as an independent candidate. MC Chandrasekhar who is a son of MG Chakrapani, an elder brother of MGR told,
“Though I am a blood relative of MGR, I am not contesting on that claim. The present situation in the AIADMK has caused much pain to me. Until MGR was alive, he kept all family members away from politics just to avoid any criticism from opposition parties that he is encouraging family politics. Though my father and myself were very much aware of political developments, we remained just spectators because of MGR’s diktat.”
MC Chandrasekhar is also planning to launch his own political party as MGR Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam after MGR birth anniversary January 17.
