Rima Das is an Indian director, writer and editor, who works in the Assamese film industry. She made her directorial and acting debut with the Assamese movie “Man with Binoculars: Antardrishti” in the year 2016. The movie “Pratha,” is her directorial debut short film and the movie was released in 2009.

Rima Das Early Life and Career

Rima Das was born in 1982 in Chhaygaon, Assam, India. Her family is now residing in Chhaygaon, Assam, India. Her father name is Bharat Chandra Das, a teacher and her mother name is Jaya Das, a businesswoman. She two brothers and their details will be updated soon. She completed her graduation in Bachelor’s Sociology at Cotton College, Guwahati and Masters in Pune University. From her childhood, she is much interested in acting and at the age of six, she made her first stage perfromance. Even though she cleared her NET examination, Rima Das passion in acting took her to Mumbai. In her early days, she appeared in few plays, but she didn’t get the opportunity to act in movies.

Rima Das gradually changed her mind and developed her interest in filmmaking. To expose herself in filmmaking, she read more articles and watched movies and observed the direction techniques. In the year 2009, she made her debut short film “Pratha“. In the year 2016, she directed the debut movie “Man with Binoculars: Antardrishti,” and the movie was screened on the Cannes Film Festival and also previewed at Mumbai Film Festival in the year 2017. Her second movie was “Village Rockstar,” in this movie her cousin Bhanita Das starred in the lead role. The movie was screened on the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017. Moreover, she is the director, producer, writer and editor of this movie. Rima Das second movie “Village Rockstars” is the second Assamese movie to win the National Award for Best Feature Film after 29 years at the 65th National Film Awards. Apart from that, her movie has won three more awards for best location sound recordist, best child artist, and best editing. In the year 2018, she was also nominated for The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in the Best Director category and her cousin Bhanita Das also nominated in the Best Actress category. The movie “Village Rockstar,” became India’s official entry to the Oscars.
