Rahul Gandhi Arrested In Modi Defamation Case

Surat District Court holds Congress leader Rahul Gandhi guilty in the criminal defamation case filed against him over his alleged ‘Modi surname’ remark. He was sentenced to two years of imprisonment and later granted bail by the court.
In 2019, Gandhi said, “how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?”. BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi lodged the complaint. The final hearing was held on March 18, and after huge arguments from both sides, Chief Judicial Magistrate, HH Varma, concluded that Congress leader Rahul was convicted of (defamation under Section 499 of IPC) for his alleged remark about people with the ‘Modi surname.’
