Pulitzer Prize 2020: 3 Photographers from J&K won this prestigious award for the first time
The Pulitzer Prize is a prestigious award which was established in 1917 by provisions in the will of Joseph Pulitzer. This award is considered the most prestigious award in journalism, newspaper, magazine, literature, and musical composition in the United States.
For the first time, Channi Anand of Jammu and Kashmir, along with Mukhtar Khan and Yasin Dar from Kashmir, was bagged the huge award on Monday. Channi Anand is one of the ace photographers of Jammu and Kashmir. Winning the award, he said, “Though I knew that there’s a Pulitzer Prize, I never dreamt that one day I would be honoured with it. I am speechless,”
All of the three are working for the associated press and won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for feature photography for their “striking images of life” in Jammu and Kashmir after the Centre evade the territory’s special status under Article 370 of the Constitution in August 2019.
Apart from Pulitzer Prize, Mukhtar Khan won an Atlanta Photojournalism Award in 2015 and Dar Yasin earned dozens of international photo awards.
