PM Narendra Modi Honoured With UN’s Highest Environmental Award
Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India has been honored with the UN’s highest environmental award for his initiative of the International Solar Alliance and pledge to eliminate single-use plastic in India by 2022. Six of the world’s most outstanding environmental changemakers have been honored with the UN’s highest environmental honor of “Champions of the Earth” Award. The UN Environment programme has said, “This year’s laureates are recognized for a combination of bold, innovative, and tireless attempts to tackle some of the most urgent environmental issues.”

PM Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron have been jointly recognised in the Policy Leadership division for their pioneering work in managing the International Solar Alliance and developing new areas of levels of service on environmental action, including Macron’s work on the Global Pact for the Environment and Narendra Modi’s pledge to eliminate all single-use plastic in India by 2022.
