A few of our fellow citizens are relieved from spending days at a nearby passport office for getting a passport. Hereafter, applying for a passport will be an easier one. People can apply for their passports at their nearby post offices.
The External Affairs Ministry has come out with an initiative and aimed at making passport issuance process hassle free. From next month, people in selected cities will be able to apply for passports in the post offices. To reduce the burden on passport offices across the country which are dealing with the large volume of application the ministry of affairs came with this initiative.
During the first phase of the project, the passport application at post offices will be made available in selected areas such as Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Jharkhand and some other selected states. The External Affairs Ministry, which issues passports is making all arrangements to bring this scheme in the selected cities in first half of March.

Currently, there are 89 Passport Seva Kendras (PSK) which are operating across India as extended arms of the 38 Passport Offices.
The government rendered 1.15 crores passport and other related services during 2016, according to the reports of MEA.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted as “It is our effort that Post Office Passport Sewa Kendra announced in the first phase should start functioning before 31.3.2017.”
According to the MEA, the objective of the government has been to provide the demand for passports and to reach out to the people who are located far away from the passport offices.
Recently, the MEA has liberalized the norms for particular categories of citizens as part of efforts to streamline the passport issuance process.
