Nine Newborns Die in 24 hours in Ahmedabad Government Hospital
The Official Sources reported that Nine Newborns Died at the Government Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad in 24 hours on Saturday. According to initial reports, the children took their last breath at the Intensive Care Unit of the Government hospital.
Earlier, Five of them had been shifted from Civil Hospitals in Lunawada in Gujarat’s Mahisagar district, Viramgam in Ahmedabad district, Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha district hospitals and Surendranagar district town, Mansa in Gandhinagar district in the state, while four succumbed at the Government hospital.

A police force was deployed at the Ahmedabad hospital to prevent the untoward incident by infuriated relatives of the children.
M.M. Prabhakar, a Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, told that the newborns were brought to Ahmedabad in a critical condition and this should not have happened. He also said
“The infant who was brought from Lunawada Civil Hospital weighed only 1.1 kg with extreme preterm. The place is 130 km from here, the patient could have been taken to any other government hospital in the vicinity,”
“Similarly, the patient referred from Viramgam was first taken to two private hospitals in Viramgam and Chandkheda in Ahmedabad and then brought here,”
The five infants from outside Ahmedabad were brought with critical conditions like severe birth asphyxia, extreme preterm with birth weight 1.1 g (usual should be 2.5 kg), hyaline membrane disease and septicemia.
Three of the Newborns in Ahmedabad had severe birth asphyxia while one had meconium aspiration syndrome.
