Nel Jayaraman is an Indian social activist and organic farmer. He was born in a poor farmer family in Thiruvarur district. He is expert in reviving traditional paddy breeds of Tamil Nadu. He revived more than 150 varieties of traditional paddy breeds as well. He served as a coordinator in a group called Save Our Rice. Unfortunately, on 6th December 2018, he died of cancer in Chennai.

• He is a student of late organic farmer Nammalvar.
• Nel Jayaraman’s information was included in 12th standard Botany syllabus.
• Due to poverty Jayaraman quit his studies at 8th standard.
• Every year Jayaraman hosted Traditional Paddy Festival in Adhirangam where he give 2 kg of traditional paddy seeds to farmers and he adviced them to cultivate those paddy seeds only through organic farming method. Further more farmers should bring back those varieties of cultivated paddy seeds to him as 4 kg on next year Traditional Paddy Festival. Then Jayaraman again give 4 kg of paddy to 4 farmers as 1kg per each. The farmer who get 2 kg should return 4 kg on next year.
• He is a former printing press employee.
• Narashimman is a person who donated 8 acres of land to Jayaraman to start organic farming center.
• He was honored for his service through several awards like SRISTI Samman Award from Central Government ministry of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu Government’s Best Organic Farmer award, Nammalvar award, Natural Seeds Reviver award from Vijay television and many more awards.
