National Voters Day is celebrated on January 25 of every year. It has been commemorated throughout the State with the theme “Assessable Elections”. The day marks the foundation of the Election Commission of India established on 25th January 1950. The 8th National Voters’ Day is dedicated to those born in the year 2000 who completed 18 years this year on January 1 will become new voters. To increase awareness about the active participation in the electoral process, token award are given to new voters at some districts level by the states across the country.

History of National Voters Day
The National Voters Day was started in the year 2011. As the new voters (who attained the age of 18 years) showing less interest in getting enrolled in the electoral process, former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh created this day to deal with this problem. As the level of the young voters was low as 20-25% percent, Election Commission has decided to take up a vigorous step to identify all eligible voters who are attaining the 18 years of as of January 1 every year in each of the 8.5 lakh polling stations across the country.
New voters must be enrolled on time and handed over their Electoral Photo Identity Card on every January 25. Ambika Soni, Information and Broadcasting Minister said that adding this initiative will provide the sense of empowerment and pride among the new young voters.
On this 8th National Voters Day, new voters will be provided with the badge of “Proud to be a voter – Ready to vote”. The slogan “No Voter to be left behind” suggest the focus on inclusiveness. On this day, Token awards will be conferred for the excellence, proficiency and innovation in the election procedures and processes.
These token awards will recognise the contribution by Election machinery, Government department/ Agencies/ PSU, CSO and media. On National Voters Day 2015, the disability activist Satendra Singh’s RTI caught Election Commission of India off-guard when they were found violating Supreme Court orders to enfranchise voters with the disability.

National Voters Day Theme 2019: “No Voter to be left behind”
The theme for 2018 of the year was “Assessable Elections”.
The theme for 2017 of the year was “Empowering Young and Future Voters.”
The theme for 2016 of the year was “Inclusive and Qualitative participation”.
The theme for 2015 of the year was “Easy Registration, Easy Correction”.
The theme for 2013 of the year was “Inclusion.”
The theme for 2011 of the year was “Greater Participation for a Stronger Democracy”.
National Voters Day Celebrations
Celebrate the National Voters Day by promoting awareness among the people about the active participation of young voters in democratic, political process. It was noted that the youth was “literate and enlightened” and that “lowering of the voting age would provide to the unrepresented youth of the country a chance to give vent to their activities and help them become a part of the political process.”
National Voters Day will be celebrated on the colleges and educational institutions with cultural programmes and rallies.
