Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi is the estranged wife of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Their traditional marriage was arranged by their families when they were children in her native Vadnagar. Jashodaben was born in 1952 in Vadnagar, Gujarat. Her mother died when she was two years old. She was engaged with Narendra Modi at the age of around three or four by their families in the custom of the Ghanchi caste of Vadnagar. When Jashodaben was 11, the couple underwent the religious ceremony of marriage. Later, the couple married as per their family custom in 1968, and at the time of marriage, Narendra Modi was 18 and Jashodaben was 16.

After Modi left, she resumed her professional life as a teacher at the primary school from 1978-1990 in Banaskantha district. She said that she plans to meet him again at the right time.

In June 2014, Jashodaben made her first public event by attending the public funeral of politician Gopinath Munde. In the same year, she made her first trip to Mumbai at the time of election where she prayed for her husband Narendra Modi at the Mahalakshmi Temple and the Siddhivinayak Temple.

In February 2015, Some Christian missionaries had invited Jashodaben to host the function for the people to convert them to Christianity. In the same year, Modi supporters organised a conference on politics and Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi was scheduled to speak at the stage. Event organisers report that the conference was cancelled on day 2 of the week-long program under the control of BJP leader Amit Shah and others. No reason was given for shutting down the conference, but people in attendance said that the meeting had cancelled due to Jashodaben’s presence.
