Muthayya Vanitha is an ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) scientist. She is one of the best examples of women empowerment. She served as a project director of India’s biggest mission Chandrayaan 2 which was a target to send the rocket named GSLV mark 3 by carrying a satellite and to safely land on the south pole of the moon. Ritu Karidhal is another women scientist who played an important role as the mission director for this project. In fact, India is the first country which made an attempt to land its satellite on the south pole of the moon.
Under Muthayya Vanitha’s project direction, Chandrayaan 2 satellite was successfully launched towards the moon on 22nd July 2019. It takes two months time for the satellite to reach the moon. Government of India allocated 1000 crore INR for this mission. To be noted, previously M Annadurai served as the director of Chandrayaan 1 mission which was launched to find the presence of water in the moon.

- For her extraordinary skills in space science, Muthayya Vanitha was honoured the Best Women Scientist Award in 2006.
