Medha Patkar Details

Medha Patkar was born on 1 December 1954 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her father’s name is Vasant Khanolkar who is a freedom fighter and a Labor union leader. Her mother’s name is Indumati. Medha Patkar obtained the MA degree from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Initially, She worked with Volunteer groups in Mumbai’s slum for 5 years and then worked for tribals in Gujarat for around 3 years. She was a Ph.D. scholar at TISS but left it unfinished as she was completely working for the welfare of the Tribals.

Medha Patkar founded the (NAPM) National Alliance of People’s Movements. She started this with an objective of facilitating unity and granting strength to people’s movements in India. Madha Patkar is the national convener of the NAPM. Medha Patkar joined Aam Aadmi Party in January 2014 and took part in the election. People failed to vote for her and she didn’t win the election. Later, She resigned from Aam Aadmi’s primary membership on 28 March 2015.
