Madhupal is an Indian film actor, director, producer, and screenwriter, who works mainly in Malayalam film industry. He made his acting debut in 1994 with the Malayalam film Kashmeeram and directorial debut through Thalappavu (2008), which was about Naxal Varghese. The film won several awards in the year. Madhupal was born and brought up in Kozhikode, Kerala, India. His father (late) Chengalath Madhava Menon was from Kannur and his mother Kannambath Rugmani Amma is a native of Calicut. Madhupal is married to Rekha. He has two daughters named Madhavi and Meenakshi. He now lives in Thiruvananthapuram with his family. During his school days, Madhupal used to write stories for Poombatta and Balayugam. His association with cinema dates back to the time when he was a kid in Palakkad. His father Chengalath Madhava Menon was running a cinema theatre, besides holding a job in Kerala State Electricity Board. He is a native of Calicut and took post graduation in commerce. He is a famous actor and story writer in Malayalam film industry. Madhupal has acted in more than 90 films in Malayalam, Tamil, English, and Hindi, including main roles. Madhupal’s short stories have been translated into many other languages like English, Hindi, and Tamil and have been published in various leading publications like Madhyamam, Mathrubhumi, and Bhashaposhini magazines.

Madhupal started his career in films as an assistant director to eminent filmmakers like Bharath Gopi and Rajiv Anchal. He was assistant director for the movie, GURU, Made in USA (which had R. Madhavan in the lead), Nothing But Life (English, shot in Las Vegas) and the eminent actor Bharath Gopi in the film Yamanam ( the film won National Award in 1991). He turned actor through the film Kashmeeram. He played a negative role, and more of such roles came his way after that. He won the Critic’s Award for Best Debutante actor for his role in the film Kashmeeram. He also worked with Jude Attipetty under the direction of Shararandal a 13-part serial. He directed and acted in about 10 serials and did a couple of documentaries for the Water Authority, Public Works Department and Sports Council after which he started writing for several Malayalam magazines. Now he is the member of the board of directors of Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC).
