Longest Bridge in India | Famous Bridges above the Water
India has the best structure of bridges above water and a marvellous list of railway bridges in the world. There are some great rail and road bridge of India like Bhupen Hazarika Setu, Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Vembanad Rail Bridge, Bandra Worli Sea Link, and Ganga Rail Road Bridge. Some other longest bridges above water in India are Kolia Bhomora Setu, Old Godavari Bridge, Korthi-Kolhar Bridge, Godavari Arch Bridge and Pamban Bridge. Recently Bhupen Hazarika Setu is the Longest Bridges in India which is opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dhola Sadiya Bridge
Bhupen Hazarika Setu is also referred as Dhola Sadiya Bridge. The 9.15 km long the bridge is built across the Lohit river, which is a tributary of the Brahmaputra by connecting Assam and eastern Arunachal Pradesh that is through Sadia town in Assam’s Tinsukia district with Dhola village. The total length of the project, including the approach roads on each side, is 28.50 km. It is recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26, 2017. It is located 540 km from Dispur and 300 km from Arunachal Pradesh.
Mahatma Gandhi Setu
Mahatma Gandhi Setu was the longest river bridge in India, over the river Ganges which connects Patna in the south to Hajipur. The 5.6 km long river bridge one of the major tourist attraction of the state in India. Then Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi inaugurated at the north end of the bridge located in Hajipur viewed by thousands of people in May 1982.
Bandra Worli Sea Link
Bandra–Worli Sea Link is also referred as Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link and also the second longest bridge above water in India, that connects Bandra with Worli. The 5.5 long bridge is a part of the proposed Western Freeway that will connect the Western Suburbs to Nariman Point in Mumbai. It was opened on 30 June 2009.
Vikramshila Setu
Vikramshila Setu is a 3rd longest bridge over water in India, build across the holiest river Ganges near Bhagalpur. The 4.7 km long two-lane bridge that connects Barari Ghat to Naugachia. The bridge opened in the year 2001.

Vembanad Rail Bridge
Vembanad Rail Bridge is the longest rail bridge in India, the 4,620 long bridge that connects Edappally and Vallarpadam in Kochi. The railway line is dedicated solely to shipping trains. The bridge was inaugurated on February 11, 2011.
Ganga Rail Road Bridge
Ganga Rail Road Bridge is the second railway bridge in Bihar, the 4.5km long roadway and railway bridge connect Digha Ghat and Pahleja Ghat in Bihar. It was inaugurated on February 3, 2016.Â
Godavari Bridge
Godavari Bridge is Asia’s second longest road-cum-rail bridge spanning a water body and second of the three bridges that span the Godavari River at Rajahmundry. Rajahmundry symbol is recognised for the 4.2 km long rail cum road bridge. Â
Penumudi Puligadda Bridge
Penumudi Puligadda Road Bridge is longest road bridge in Andhra Pradesh state, the 4.0 km long bridge is built over the Krishna river on National Highway 214 in Guntur of a state.

Munger Ganga Bridge
Munger Ganga Bridge is completed rail-cum-road bridge that connects Munger-Jamalpur and North Bihar. The 3.19 km long bridge was one of the two rail-rado bridge which is under construction in Bihar state. It was inaugurated last year on March 12, 2016.
Nehru Setu
Earlier, Nehru Setu was also referred as the Upper Son Bridge is the second longest railway bridge in India. The 3,064m bridge is a Rail bridge between Dehri-on-Son and Son Nagar, road that is parallel to Jawahar Road bridge.
Jawahar Setu
Jawahar Setu is one of the longest road bridge in Bihar which built over the Son river between Dehri-on-Son and Son Nagar, runs parallel to the Nehru Setu rail bridge with a total length of 3,061 metres. This bridge is built by one of the marvels of the engineering of India. It was opened in 1965.
Kolia Bhomora Setu
Kolia Bhomora Setu is a concrete road bridge over the Brahmaputra River near Tezpur. The 3015 meters and 120 m span is the long river bridge and one of the major tourist temptation of Assam. It was opened in 1987.
Korthi Kolhar Bridge
Korthi Kolhar bridge is the second longest cross-drainage structure in the country built over the National Highway 218 that connects Bijapur and Hubli of Karnataka. The 3 km bridge is one of the longest bridges above water in India. It was opened in 1987.
