Justice Ranjan Gogoi Takes Oath as 46th Chief Justice of India
On Wednesday, Ranjan Gogoi has been sworn-in as the 46th Chief Justice of India (CJI) by President Ram Nath Kovind. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among the dignitaries who were present in Rashtrapati Bhawan’s Darbar Hall for the oath-taking ceremony.

CJI Ranjan Gogoi was born on November 18, 1954, in Assam’s Dibrugarh district. He was the first person from the North-Eastern states to hold the post of Chief Justice of India (CJI). Father of Ranjan Gogoi, Keshab Chandra Gogoi served as the 9th chief minister of Assam in the year 1982. The tenure of CJI Ranjan Gogoi will continue till November 17, 2019, and he will be presiding over the key cases like Ayodhya title suit and the NRC in Assam.
