Jhumpa Lahiri is an American author, who is originated from India. Moreover, she is well-known for her short stories, novels and essays in English and more recently she writes in Italian as well. Jhumpa Lahiri was born on 11 July 1967 in London, England, UK. Jhumpa Lahiri father name is Amar Lahiri who works as a librarian at the University of Rhode Island and her mother name will be updated soon. She did her schooling in South Kingstown High School, Washington and she did her multiple degrees in Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts. Moreover, her father is the protagonist in “The Third and Final Continent,” which is the closing story from Interpreter of Maladies. She completed her dissertation in 1997, and it was entitled as Accursed palace: The Italian Palazzo on the Jacobean stage (1603-1625). William Carroll (English) and Hellmut Wohl (Art History) were her principal advisers. Then she took her fellowship at Provincetown’s Fine Arts Work Center for two years from 1997-1998 and then she has taught creative writing at Boston University and the Rhode Island School of Design. Jhumpa Lahiri husband name is Alberto Vourvoulias-Bush who is a deputy editor of TIME Latin America and now he is the senior editor of TIME Latin America. She is now residing in Rome with her husband and two childrens named Octavio was born in 2002 and Noor was born in 2005. Now she is working as a professor of creative writing in the Lewis Center for the Arts at the Princeton University on July 1, 2015.

Jhumpa Lahiri’s short stories were faced with few rejections at the beginning from the publishers for years. Then she finally published her first Short Story collection titled Interpreter of Maladies in the year 1999. This story shows the sensitive difficulties of the Indians or Indian immigrants. Then the book was sold up to 600,000 copies and received the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Then in the year 2003, she published the book The Namesake which is her first novel and it says the 30 years in the life of the Ganguli family. Then the story was taken as a movie in the same name directed by Mira Nair and starring Kal Penn as Gogol and Bollywood star Tabu and Irrfan Khan as his parents. In this movie, she appeared in the Cameo Appearance as “Aunt Jhumpa.”

Her second collection of short stories is Unaccustomed Earth and it was released on April 1, 2008. Then this book achieved the rare distinction of debuting at number 1 on The New York Times bestseller list. As she has a distinguished relationship with The New Yorker magazine she published some fiction and a few non-fiction stories that include The Long Way Home; Cooking Lessons. From the year 2005, he worked as a vice president of the PEN American Center, which is the organization developed for promoting the friendship and intellectual cooperation among writers. Later in 2010, she was appointed as the member of the Committee on the Arts and Humanities with five others. Moreover, she worked on the third season of the HBO television program In Treatment and that season was featured with the character name Sunil, who is a widower migrates from India to the United States and she struggles with grief and with culture shock.
