India’s First Underwater Museum to Come Up in Pondicherry
India is set to get its first underwater museum in the Puducherry (aka) Pondicherry coast, giving a boost to tourism in the Union territory. To accomplish this objective, INS Cuddalore, a minesweeper vehicle will be deployed in the seabed from the 7 km off the Puducherry Coast at a depth of 26 meters. Till now, the minesweeper vehicle has traveled more than 30,000 nautical miles in the last 30 years.
The 60-meter long and 12-meter INS Cuddalore will be a popular destination for the scuba diving and snorkeling. The Indian Navy has agreed to donate INS Cuddalore to promote the tourism in the Puducherry coast. On the sea surface, water buoys will be deployed and the 29-meter tall mast of the ship will be jutting out to allow the tourists to take the boat rides around it.
