How to Install and Use AppCake on iOS Devices
AppCake is one of the most popular names in jailbreak circles, but, as most iOS users are finding out, the jailbreaks we have available today can’t be used on all devices, and most are semi-untethered. This meant, for a long while, that people couldn’t get their hands on AppCake, but now, thanks to an update by the developers, it works without a jailbreak. Read on to find out all you need to know about AppCake.
What is AppCake?
AppCake is a popular, free iOS platform that enables easy installation of IPA files onto an iPhone or iPad. These are the unofficial files, unsigned by Apple that you cannot get from any legal source. Many of you will have been using Cydia Impactor to sideload these files onto your devices. However, when you use Cydia Impactor, you must provide your own IPA file from external sources, whereas AppCake already has thousands included. And, where Cydia Impactor limits you to just three active apps, AppCake lets you download as many as you want.
Developed by iPhoneCake, TopStore was released by iPASTORE in 2008 and has recently been updated to support iOS 13.
How to Install AppCake
While a jailbreak is not needed to install AppCake, it isn’t quite as simple as going to the official app store and downloading it. You will need to install it directly, and you must be aware that the unsigned apps use enterprise certificates to sign them – this means they may be revoked by Apple and crash. If this happens, just reinstall the apps.
- Using the Safari browser, go to the AppCake page.
- Tap on the Download button and tap Install on the popup window. If you don’t do this, the app does not have permission to install it on your device.
- When the app icon is on your homepage, AppCake is installed.
How to Fix Untrusted Developer Error
The first thing you will see when you tap the AppCake icon for the first time is an Untrusted Developer error. This is just Apple saying that, as the app is unofficial, they cannot trust the developer. You can so make a note of the developer name from the error message and then follow these steps:
- Go into iOS Settings
- Go to General and then Profiles
- Find and tap on the developer name in the app profiles list
- Tap Trust and come out of Settings
Now, when you tap the AppCake icon, it should open
How to Use AppCake
You can use AppCake in two ways – to install IPA files from the app and to install external files:
Method 1: Installing Included Files
- Launch AppCake and tap on one of the app categories
- Search through to find an app you want and tap on it
- Follow the guide in the screen to install it
Method 2: Installing External Files
- Open Safari browser on your device and find the IPA files you want – download them but only use reputable sources
- Send the files to AppCake and then open AppCake
- Navigate to Downloads and tap on the IPA file you downloaded
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install it
You will probably need to follow the Untrusted Developer guide above for many of the files you install.

Is AppCake Safe?
AppCake is 100% safe to use. We gave it a thorough test once the developers deemed it safe to be released publicly and found no malware or viruses or anything else that could possibly harm your device. And another layer of security is the fact that you do not need to install a jailbreak to use AppCake. That means you do not hack the iOS and do not leave your device wide open to external threats. Lastly, because your Apple ID is not needed for the installation, your usage of the app cannot be tracked by Apple. However, as an added precaution, make sure your device is protected by anti-virus software.
AppCake has always been popular, right from when it was a Cydia app. Now, with anyone being able to use it on their iPhone or iPad, without the hassle of jailbreaking, it is proving even more popular. And, because its free, you’ve nothing to lose by trying it, so install AppCake today, tell us what you think of it, and share this with others so they can enjoy the features AppCake offers.
