Hema Rakesh was born in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, India. Right from her college days, She was very interested in Journalism and started to Work as a Student Reporter for Vikatan Group’s Vikatan.com. She worked as a student reporter from 2006 to 2008. Parallelly, she worked as a news presenter from 2006 to 2011 at Vaigai TV where she developed her news reading skills. Apart from being a news presenter, Hema also worked as a Social Worker in UNICEF India from May 2008 to February 2009.

After quitting from Vaigai TV, She joined Lotus TV in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India and worked there as a News Presenter and a Subeditor producer from June 2012 to Jan 2013. After which she moved to Chennai to join Thanthi TV as a senior news presenter/Journalist which she is currently doing as well. She is also the pink ambassador to India Turns Pink organization. Hema Rakesh married Rakesh Prabhakar on 9th September 2013.
