Guru Somasundaram is an Indian actor who predominantly appears in Tamil and Malayalam films. He made his debut in Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Aaranya Kaandam (2011), and he received critical acclaim for his role. He then appeared in the film Pandiya Naadu, Jigarthanda, and the political satire film Joker. He did a prominent role in Mohanlal’s Barroz: Guardian of Treasures movie.

- He joined the prominent Tamil theatre group in Koothu-P-Pattarai, where he enacted plays from 2002 to 2011.
- In 2003, director Thiagarajan Kumararaja met him, while he was playing the role of Chandra Hari in Koothupattarai’s play, Thiagarajan offered him an opportunity to feature in the future film.
- Then in 2008, the director called up Guru and offered him a role in his neo-noir film Aaranya Kaandam, for the character of the drunkard Kaalaiyan.
- In 2011, the film went on to gain two National Film Awards, while Somasundaram’s performance was well-received by critics.
