Ease of Living Index List | Best & Worst cities to Live in India
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has released the list of best cities to live on the Ease of Living Index. Ease of Living Index 2018 contains 111 cities ranked in accordance with the standards set by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Four main categories were framed and 15 thematic categories come under these four main categories. Let us see the Methodology, Best & Worst cities which were ranked under Ease of Living Index:
Ease of Living Index: Methodology & Process
The ranking is based on four main categories. 15 thematic categories were divided among the 4 main categories. Here are the categories:
- Institution ~ 25% Weightage
- Governance
- Social ~ 25% Weightage
- Identity and Culture
- Education
- Health
- Safety & Security
- Economic ~ 5% Weightage
- Economy and Employment
- Physical ~ 45% Weightage
- Housing & Inclusiveness
- Public Open Space
- Mixed Land Use and Compactness
- Power Supply
- Transportation & Mobility
- Assured Water Supply
- Waste Water Management
- Solid Waste Management
- Reduced Population
The cities are calculated according to these categories and the total is added to be named as the best city to live in. The process of indexing & ranking goes through four phases. After making the things clear in the 3 phases, they will enter into the fourth phase which is Ranking & Scoring. Here is the process which takes place for the Ease of Living Index:

Ease of Living Index & Ranking
By considering the different categories and calculating the points, Pune is ranked on the top of 111 cities on the Ease of Living Index list followed by Navi Mumbai as 2nd and Greater Mumbai as 3rd best. Tripathi of Andhra Pradesh is ranked 4th among 111 cities. Cities from top states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, UP, Gujarat does not come under the top 10 cities. Maharastra has 4 cities named under top 10 cities. Here is the list of Top 10 cities mentioned in the Ease of Living Index:

Top cities like Delhi and Bengaluru didn’t get top positions in the ranking. Kolkatta didn’t participate/refused to participate in the analysis. Tamil Nadu state has 12 cities ranked inside the top 50 on the Ease of Living Index. Uttar Pradesh has 14 cities named under Top 111. The Rampur city of Uttar Pradesh is the least ranked city on the Ease of Living Index.
