Dhola Sadiya Bridge | India’s Longest Bridge

Dhola–Sadiya Bridge is a beam bridge in India which is also referred as Bhupen Hazarika Bridge that connects the northeast states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The distance of the bridge is 9.15 km’s in length, and it is the longest bridge in India. The bridge spans the Lohit River which is the major tributary of the Brahmaputra River, from the village of Dhola in Tinsukia District. This bridge is the first permanent road which connects between the northern Assam and eastern Arunachal Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had opened the Bridge recently on May 26, 2017, in Assam. This new bridge will solve the road connectivity problem in the surrounding region. There are several advantages made through this bridge, they are

It will assure that there will be 24×7 connectivity between upper Assam and eastern parts of Arunachal Pradesh. This bridge is mainly to reduce the travel time by around five hours between Rupai in Assam to Meka and Roing in Arunachal Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had opened the Bridge recently on May 26, 2017, in Assam.

The total length of the project Dhola-Sadiya bridge or Bhupen Hazarika Bridge covers the roads on each side parallelly, and the distance is 28.5 km whereas the length of the bridge is 9.15 km.

The bridge is earthquake-proof, and it has seismic defenses in all its 182 piers.

In the region, the bridge will be very helpful with quick and easy convenience for Indian Defence Forces. To smoothen the military interchange to Arunachal Pradesh due to China’s claims in the region, this will be strategically important to commute.

The Bridge has been constructed on Built Operate Transfer on an annuity basis at a total cost estimated as at Rs 2,056 crore and as part of the Arunachal Roads and Highways packages under the control of Ministry’s Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North East.

And the bridge helps for the main reason to reduce the consumption of Petrol and Diesel worth Rs 10 lakh a day. 

Before the bridge, people in the region can only use a boat to cross the Brahmaputra at this location in the daytime, and often this was not possible during floods occur, so the government plans and executes the huge bridge.
