Children are always considered next to the God of the Invincible who always aim to inculcate happiness, joy, innocence and hope. Child Labour is having children in the economic activity on a part- and also a full-time basis. This makes the children strips of their childhood and causes harm to their physical and mental development. Child Labour in India is mainly because of Family’s Poverty, lack of good schools and the growth of the free economy. Not only India, Child labour happens to be a global phenomenon. India is mostly concerned because the children in India traditionally working to help their parents in primitive activities like farms,etc.,

Causes

To exorbitant rates of repayment of interest, the concept of bonded labour is one of the most common forms of exploitation. It means the children are compelled to work as employees instead of payment of debt by the parents. This concept is also associated with urban child labour, children who spend most of their childhood on the streets are forced to work as an employee for low payments.

Indian law specifically defines a criminal offence to employ children in hazardous industries. Notably, 64 industries are hazardous in India. In 2001, an estimated 1% of all child workers, or about 120,000 children in India were in a hazardous job.

UNICEF has categorised child work into three categories like Children are engaged in domestic household tasks without pay that is within the family, when we consider outside the home, but within the home, the works are at agriculture farms, domestic maids, migrant labourers, etc. Also without the family, the children are in commercial shops in restaurants and jobs, prostitution, etc.

Unethical activities are also done by even National and Multinational companies; they were recruiting children in garments for more work and less pay.

India had been under the exploitative regime of the British; it only made sense that the terms were devised keeping in mind the forms of exploitative labour that India had observed under the cruel regime. This issue of concern shows the problem of child labour in India for one and all post-independence. Without seeking suggestions from the other countries, the drafting committee of the India constitution wanted to formulate laws on their own.

When the Employment of Children Act was passed on 1938, the primitive laws are formed to prohibit child labour in India. But the act failed to address the cause of poverty as it is poverty that drives children into limited labour.

The Indian Parliament again has fixed Laws and Acts to ensure the protection of children from child labour. The international labour organisation (ILO) recommends poverty is the greatest single force driving children into the workplace. Income from a child’s work is just to 25 to 40% for the household, and it is felt to be atrocious for one’s survival for household income.

To Eliminate Child Labour

Strict implementation of labour laws is essential to prevent exploitation by parties or multinational companies. Cancellation of child trafficking, free and compulsory education, elimination of poverty, and basic standards of living can reduce the problem.

The International Monetary Fund and World Bank could help in destroying poverty by providing a loan to the developing countries. To implement strict measures to control that situation, many amendments are required in the present child labour prohibition law in order.
