She gained attention after posting a video opposing the draft Environmental Impact Assessment 2020 (EIA draft 2020). She entered politics and selected as a State Secretary of Environmental Wing of actor Kamal Haasan’s political party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). She contests in the Maduravoyal constituency in Chennai in the Tamil Nadu state election 2021.

On 13 May 2021, the activist resigned her post from the MNM party due to personal reasons. On 08 July 2021, Padma Priya joins the ruling party DMK officially.

Apart from woman influencer, Chennai Tamizhachi Padma Priya is a researcher, teacher, blogger, and muser. She started content making through the TikTok app and delivered various videos related to science, general facts, information, and beauty vlog rather than just doing lipsync.
