India’s upcoming President is likely to be a dyed-in-the-wool BJP leader, conflicting to speculation that the ruling party might field some political candidate or a technocrat. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to deliberate his preference with party leaders, but ruling party stated that the leadership is not inclined to reiteration the 2002 experiment when it had to fielded an outsider, APJ Abdul Kalam. Earlier, the BJP in Meghalaya told the party is expectant more resignations in the Garo Hills region in the upcoming days over a row over the beef ban.
As consultation begins within the BJP and with the antagonism for the July 17th election, the ruling side requires a President who has a strong BJP affiliation. On Friday Venkaiah Naidu and the Rajnath Singh Union Minister drove to the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party Patriarch LK Advani and also named as Murli Manohar Joshi.
Although two members of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Margdarshak Mandal were seen as possible contenders, sources told that Friday’s meetings with the two were to seek their views on the Party’s Presidential candidate.Joshi and Advani had fallen out of favour with the party leadership. They are unlikely to be considered for the place announced party sources. The BJP is likely to announce the name of the Presidential candidate on June 22, and the nomination is expected the day later. BJP will choose its candidate with an aim to break the new found unity in the antagonism. “It will be a victory for us even if we manage to wean away one or two major parties from the antagonism camp” Union Minister told HT.
