Aayirathil Oruvan 2 is a most awaited sequel of the 2010 film Aayirathil Oruvan that starred Karthi, Parthiban, Andrea, and Reema Sen. On 1 January 2021, director Selvaraghavan revealed that versatile actor Dhanush would be playing the lead role in the AO 2 film, which is slated to be released in 2024.

Dhanush and Selvaraghavan have worked together in films like ‘Kaadhal Konden’, ‘Pudhupettai’, ‘Mayakkam Enna’. Sharing the poster of the film, Dhanush tweeted,
